Hotstar is available as an online streaming website or an app that can be downloaded on your smartphone and tablet.
The prices of Hotstar subscriptions vary depending on what package is selected. Right now, there are three available subscription plans for Hotstar which are the Free plan, Super plan , and the Premium plan.

UPDATE: As of November 2022, Hotstar is not longer available in the US and Canada. If users wish to access the Hotstar network then the will be able to do so by signing into the Indian Disney+ Hotstar website using a VPN.

Hotstar Subscription Strategies
Hotstar currently offers three subscription plans to their primary market base:
- Free 30-Day Trial
- Super
- Premium
There’s technically a fourth plan, but that’s only for mobile phone users and you can only purchase that plan if you’re logged into your smartphone and not the desktop.
Hotstar USA Plans
Standard Plan
Subscribers can download the Disney+ Hotstar app from the Google Play Store or Apple’s App Store, free of cost.
Subscribers who prefer to use the standard plan, will not be able to view or enjoy premium content such as international movies and TV shows. These subscribers will have limited access to Hotstar content like television programs, and sports highlights.
As of 2022, the free subscription plan has been terminated and users will only be able to use Hotstar in the US by paying for the services. Generally, users get a 30 day trial period before purchasing a plan, but this has been disabled as well.
Monthly Recurring Plan
The monthly recurring plan was another tier available to Hotstar users in the US. This plan granted users access to all the content available on Hotstar at a premium of $19.99 a month.
Charges for this package were collected on a monthly basis and the plan could be canceled at any point in time.
As of 2022, the monthly recurring plan in the US has been canceled and users can only subscribe to the services by opting for a yearly subscription package.
Yearly Recurring Plan
The Hotstar US annual subscription plan was last discounted from $99.99 to $49.99 + tax per year.
This plan was made available to all Hotstar users and the charges for the subscription were collected every 30 days.
However, as of 2022, Hotstar is no longer available to US customers and if you would like to watch live cricket matches or content that’s normally broadcasted on Hotstar, you can do so by purchasing the Hulu, Disney+ EPSN Plus bundle and gain access to these channels.
Hulu will send out an email notice three days prior to the due date to ensure that customers can make a decision whether to continue with their paid plans or not.
Hotstar Canada Plans
Hotstar Canada also provides one paid plan to its customers. i.e annual subscription.
Hotstar premium in Canada is somewhat more affordable than the US and as of 2022, the cost of the Hotstar premium subscription is 49.99 CAD which is less than the price of the subscription at launch (79.99 CAD).
The annual subscription plan grants users access to all the content available on Disney+ Hotstar including live TV shows, movies, sports and news.
This plan can be canceled any time and to make things easier, Hotstar sends out timely reminders to your email if a payment is due.
You can also opt to try the Hotstar free trial in Canada while signing up.
However, from a recent update from Disney, they are going to terminate their Hotstar services in Canada before the year ends and Disney+ Hotstar will only be available in India and Singapore by the end of 2022.
If you still want to watch Disney+ Hotstar from Canada then you can do so by signing up to the Indian website using a VPN and purchasing a Disney+ Hotstar subscription package with a valid Indian credit/debit card.
Hotstar India Plans
Hotstar in India has 3 plans available to customers; Free, Super and Premium. These plans can be bought on the Disney+ Hotstar website/mobile app by using different modes of payment.
The Super and Premium plans supply all Star Sports channels, live streaming of sports matches and Hotstar original series.
Users can register with the Super plan on a yearly basis by paying ₹899/- and if you’re interested in opting for the Premium plan then there are two subscription plans available; monthly at a premium of ₹299/- per month and yearly at a premium of ₹1499/- for the year.
The third option available to Indian customers is Hotstar mobile which is a subscription plan made available only to mobile users. Here you will be able to watch Hotstar premium shows only on your mobile phone and this plan will not work on laptops, desktops or smart TVs.
The base package for mobile users in India is ₹49/- per month with payment plans available for 6 months as well on a yearly basis, these are priced at ₹199/- and ₹499/- respectively.

Yes. Hotstar does support Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound on Android TV, Apple TV and Amazon’s Fire TV platform.
How many devices can I watch Hotstar on simultaneously?
The regulations set by Hotstar state that there’s a particular number of devices you can be connected to at any given time.
This depends on the subscription package selected and whether or not the plan offers multiple device viewing.
Mobile and Free plans are limited to a single device at a time whereas Super allows 2 devices to run the same account at once and Premium grants users with up to 4 logins at once.
Can I watch live TV channels on Hotstar?
No, unfortunately there are no live TV channels on Hotstar. Rather, you can watch live sports matches and races on Hotstar as they are tied up with Star Sports for live broadcasts.
Is Hotstar Available in the USA?
No, unfortunately as of 2022, Disney has terminated their Hotstar services in the US and users will only be able to watch Disney+ content by subscribing to the HULU package.
